It was an extremely close fight, with Indian National Congress's Pirzada Mahamadjavid Abdulmutalib narrowly winning the election upstaging Bharatiya Janata Party's Jitendra Kantilal Somani (JITU SOMANI) by a slim margin of 1,361 votes.
The top three candidates split 94.1% of votes between them. Indian National Congress's Pirzada Mahamadjavid Abdulmutalib secured a total of 72,588 votes, while Bharatiya Janata Party's Jitendra Kantilal Somani (JITU SOMANI) got 71,227 votes. Independent candidate Gordhanbhai Polabhai Saravaiya bagged 25,547 votes to finish at the third place. The top three parties got 40.3%, 39.6% and 14.2% respectively.
