Lok Sabha 2019 constituency: Will Mimi Chakraborty’s star power help Trinamool win Jadavpur

Jadavpur Lok Sabha seat is one of the 42 constituencies in West Bengal and was formed before the parliamentary election in 1977.

Once dominated by the Left, the Trinamool Congress captured the seat for the first time in 1998 Lok Sabha election. Trinamool’s Krishna Bose won against the Communist Party of India(Marxist) leader Malini Bhattacharya by more than 98,000 votes.

Bose continued to win till 2004 when Sujan Chakraborty of the CPI(M) took the Jadavpur seat for one term. The Trinamool has held the Jadavpur parliamentary constituency since 2009 as Kabir Suman won that year and the Sugata Bose in the next Lok Sabha election in 2014.

This year, the ruling party in West Bengal has nominated Bengali actor Mimi Chakraborty from the Jadavpur Lok Sabha seat.

Voting in the Jadavpur Lok Sabha seat will take place in the last and seventh phase on May 19. The result will be declared on May 23.
